Slashed Quilting Workshop | Wednesday June 4th | With Jennie Sloan

$200.00

A day spent with yours truly (Jennie) as I show you the machine method of a traditional Japanese quilting style.

This versatile quilting method of layered fabrics allows for a ‘chenille’ type appearance and is incredibly absorbent. These quilts are best machine-washed and tumble-dried to improve its effect of blooming.

You will sew a linen and cotton machine-quilted bath-sized mat that could also be utilised as a baby change mat.

These initial learning skills will allow for the growth of future quilt making into throws and quilt covers for beds, cushions and even clothing.

  • Jennie Sloan from Nimble Fingers

“Art and textiles have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. From early childhood, I was rarely without a pencil, knitting needles, or embroidery threads in hand—and a sewing machine always nearby. Inspired by my mother, a beautifully exquisite example of true nimble fingers, I developed a deep love for the tactile and a joyful appreciation for creative expression.

In the 1990s, I completed a slashed quilting course with the late Julie Wallace of Loch, which led me to start nimble fingers—a home-based business creating small quilts for retail and commissioned pieces. As a stay-at-home mum, this allowed me to nurture both my family and my creativity within our home.

Over the years, my love of making has grown to include a range of arts and crafts, all created with heart and care in every stitch. In 2022, I opened a purpose-built studio at our marthadale home, expanding nimble fingers into a space for teaching and sharing. Here, I offer classes in slashwork and other creative forms, joined by a wonderful circle of talented tutors and friends.

I believe creativity is a beautiful expression of the inner self and a powerful tool for relaxation, joy, and self-discovery. With gentle guidance, I hope to open the door to new skills and meaningful exploration for everyone who walks into the studio.
