*It begins with a drawing inspired by Marthadale's home garden. We will spontaneously work from the site.
*From these drawings we will play and have fun with experimental compositions. Apply new ways of thinking and developing imagery, the rubber blocks can be cut up like a jigsaw puzzle or leave as individual shapes. You may make a few carved blocks depending on the time
*Designs will be transferred to the buttery soft rubber blocks, then carved.
*The fun part comes next when you can play on the surfaces on the paper first and then the silk scarf when we have it right, overlapping shapes, considering direction, transparency, pattern or not, space arrangement plus colour combinations.

Pauline Fraser
Pauline is an accomplished Australian artist and art educator with over three decades of professional experience across sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, and public art. She holds a Master of Fine Art by Research from Monash University (2007), where she investigated the role of sculpture in public spaces, along with a Graduate Diploma of Art (Sculpture) from Monash (1992), and a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art (Sculpture) from RMIT (1990).
Pauline’s artistic work has been widely exhibited in regional and commercial galleries throughout Victoria and interstate, including solo exhibitions at Benalla Art Gallery, Albury Regional Art Gallery, and the Louis Joel Gallery. Her work is included in numerous public, museum, corporate, and private collections.
She has been commissioned for major public artworks across Australia, including:
Wind Contrivance (1995) – City of Melbourne
Regeneration (2004) – Albury Wodonga Development Corporation
Seaborn (2005) – Hobsons Bay City Council
Four large wood carvings for the City of Boroondara (1997)
In addition to these, Pauline has been shortlisted for over a dozen public sculpture commissions and has completed artist residencies and acquisitions by major galleries such as the Wangaratta Exhibitions Gallery and Albury Regional Art Gallery.
A dedicated educator, Pauline has taught visual arts throughout her career, drawing from her early training as a primary teacher at Bendigo Teachers College, where she first specialised in art. Her intuitive and nurturing teaching style has empowered countless students—both beginners and experienced artists—to explore their creativity with confidence.
Currently based in the scenic countryside of Lurg, Victoria, Pauline’s practice is deeply inspired by the natural environment—birds, insects, plant life, and the rolling hills surrounding her studio. Her current focus is on hand-carved printmaking and ceramics, which are sold through outlets such as the Benalla Art Gallery Shop, the Paper Mill Gallery in Fyansford, and markets across the Bellarine Peninsula.
When you join one of Pauline’s workshops, you’re not just learning a technique—you’re gaining insight from a deeply experienced artist whose life’s work is rooted in creativity, craftsmanship, and community.
